The Toyota U660E was introduced in 2007 and is popular among a wide range of models. As manufacturers developed 4- and 5-speed transmissions they simply added gear train components. That is, they just added another gear set to an existing design and voilà… a new transmission with additional gears. This is a popular design strategy since it incorporates already-existing components. The downside is it also makes the transmission bulkier, and with it… additional weight.
